Tighter Controls on German Borders Announced

September 13, 2024

AGI News

Please be advised that Germany is introducing stricter land border controls from Monday 16th September 2024.

The additional checks on the German border will last for an initial 6 month period, impacting goods arriving from bordering Austria, Belgium, Czechia, France, Denmark, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Poland, and Switzerland

The action comes amid rising immigration concerns. Interior Minister Nancy Faeser commented: “We are strengthening our internal security through concrete action and we are continuing our tough stance against irregular migration.”

Additional checks at the border are likely to lead to delays, including freight movements.

We are monitoring the situation to provide the best solution possible for shipments either transiting Germany, or where Germany is the final destination, and we will issue further updates should any additional measures come into force.

Please contact your local office to discuss any concerns you have with shipments going to Germany, and the team will be on hand to assist with any queries. And for all of the latest AGI news, don’t forget to follow us on LinkedIn and Facebook!
