How big is the export market in Germany?
According to data from World’s Top Exports, German exports totalled US$1.656 trillion in 2022. Exports to the US, France, the Netherlands and China accounted for the biggest values, totalling 30.9% of all German exports.
Some global leading companies help to account for such high export figures, with German companies well represented in the Forbes Global 2000 rankings. These companies include the Volkswagen Group, the Mercedes-Benz Group and the BMW Group.

The following are the top 10 German exports during 2022. This top 10 accounts for 68.5% of the total US$ value for all exports from Germany.
1. Vehicles – US$257.5 billion (15.5% of total exports from Germany)
2. Machinery including Computers – US$253.3 billion (15.3% of total exports)
3. Electrical Machinery & Equipment – US$176.6 billion (10.7% of total exports)
4. Pharmaceuticals – US$124.2 billion (7.5% of total exports)
5. Optical, Technical & Medical Apparatus – US$78.7 billion (4.8% of total exports)
6. Plastics & Plastic Articles – US$75.1 billion (4.5% of total exports)
7. Mineral Fuels – US$61.8 billion (3.7% of total exports)
8. Articles of Iron & Steel – US$37.4 billion (2.3% of total exports)
9. Other Chemical Goods – US$35.3 billion (2.1% of total exports)
10. Organic Chemicals – US$34.2 billion (2.1% of total exports)
